Basically, what I am trying t work out is whether it would help having all GLONGOO’s categorised rather than relying on keywords.
The main reason we ditched the category idea was to keep the system open so that in an infinite world there are an infinite number of categories and thus we could not possibly list all the ones that someone might need. The cynical people out there may be shouting out “Yeah, but how many times will you come across the need for any more categories than what eBay has?”
Well, in truth probably rarely and for the more obscure categories we could just send them into to the ‘Other’ category. This seems somewhat alien to the idea of GLONGOO though.
Another reason for using a keyword string is that we force people to think about what they are advertising. This should in principle keep the adverts relevant and clean. Also the ability for GLONGOO’s to cross link with each other rather than just and parent / child relationship is very powerful.
The basis of most modern social networking systems these days is focused on relationships.
Twitter for one uses the parent / child model in that you follow someone or they can follow you.
Facebook is the same.
GLONGOO is different though. By not having categories we do not limit the relationships. All GLONGOO’s that share a common word are inherent members of the same group. They share the same DNA. This means that GLONGOO creates its own relationship web without the need for human request and confirmation. It automatically creates the relationship for you.
Let me know what you think?
